About Us
At Root & River®, we believe yoga, at its essence, reflects the balance of the natural world, steady yet alive, grounded yet ever-changing. Our purpose is to create yoga tools that honour this balance, supporting both the body and the world it moves within.
Each piece in our range is shaped with care, using natural, sustainable materials chosen for their performance, longevity, and gentle impact on the planet. We favour fewer, better tools, pieces that earn their place in your practice through function, beauty, and thoughtfulness.
Root & River is not about excess or trends. It is about presence. About moments where movement becomes ritual, where stillness has weight, and where what you use aligns with how you live.
We design for all who seek balance, wherever they begin. For those who move with awareness, tread lightly, and believe that ethics and aesthetics can coexist without compromise.
This is yoga. No noise or pretence. This is Root & River.
Our Approach
Every material, form, and detail is considered — from responsibly sourced cork to versatile textiles designed to serve more than one purpose. By creating products that do more with less, we aim to reduce excess and encourage a more mindful approach to practice.
Root & River products are made to be used daily, imperfectly, and with intention. They are tools for movement and rest, created for beginners and long-time practitioners alike.
We do not design for performance or display. We design for ritual — the quiet, personal moments where practice becomes meaningful.
Our commitment to sustainability is practical, honest, and ongoing, guided by respect for natural materials, responsible sourcing, and longevity over disposability.
Our Maker’s Seal
Our maker’s seal takes the form of a peacock feather: a symbol of beauty, renewal, and reverence in India, where yoga first began. For centuries, the peacock has represented care, watchfulness, and respect for craft; values that continue to guide our approach today.
The feather also reflects our own journey. From a quiet village in the English countryside, where peacocks roam freely, to the ancient roots of yoga in India, the seal holds a shared story of place, lineage, and intention. It is a bridge between where we are and where the practice comes from.
More than a symbol, the seal is a mark of trust. It signifies that each piece has been thoughtfully designed, responsibly made, and created to endure, honouring both the body it supports and the world it belongs to.
Placed quietly within our products, the seal reveals itself only in moments of close attention. It is a private signature rather than a display, a reminder that true quality does not seek notice, but earns it.
Wherever your practice unfolds, the maker’s seal is both signature and promise: rooted in tradition, flowing into your life.
